Ok, my games index is now live. It's a fairly complete list, although I know there are a bunch of DOS games that aren't on there just because I don't have them with me anymore (they're at home with Mom and Dad collecting dust). Anyway have a peek. If you're geographically nearby let me know if you'd like to borrow something. (While I'm at it, I might as well make this a Movable Type tip-- click the 'more' link for the goods.)

During my second lecture to an XML class at a local community college, I explained how XML lets you define your own markup language with custom tags and attributes. I had finished defining a simple markup language for use with a list of amateur sports clubs, and had displayed a sample document written with that markup. At that point, one student asked:
"Isn't it inefficient to have to type all those tags for every club? What good is this? It looks nice, but what can I do with this document? How can I put this in a web page or use it with other programs? Wouldn't it be easier to just use HTML or a database/word processor/fill-in-the-blank?"
The reason that we use XML...

Backup/restore your SQLite database
Backing up your database is an essential part of a healthy Movable Type maintainance schedule and critically important any time you endeavor to upgrade your system.
Downloading your database
Since the SQLite database is a simple file, backing it up is as easy as downloading it and saving it to a safe place. The file path and name is listed in mt-config.cgi just in case you forgot. Just make sure to download it in your FTP software's binary mode.
Command-line backups
If you have shell access, you can simply make a dated, compressed copy of...

All roads in weblogging lead to posting entries, for without posted entries there is no weblog. It should come as no surprise that the Entries Listing and New/Edit Entry screens are where most users will find themselves when working with Movable Type.
In these screens a user can view what entries are in a weblog, filter them based on certain criteria, make new posts and edit existing ones.
Entries Listing
The Entries Listing screen displays either all the entries for the weblog or just the entries made by you. What gets displayed depends on whether or not you have been granted Edit All Posts access.

As most of you know, simultaneous with the release of Movable Type 3.2, we introduced the new and vastly improved User Manual. The manual is built using Movable Type and offers to all of our customers not only an excellent search functionality but the ability to give feedback directly on every single item.
Of course, with any major change, there are always things that fall through the cracks and this was no exception. You let us know through the comments on the manual and many blog posts that the manual still needed some work. So a few weeks ago we rolled up our sleeves and got to work on filling in the gaps and fixing the problems you highlighted. We're now happy to say...

This is a quick plugin I wrote during the beta tests because I frequently changed the values of my config file to test bugs and hated scrolling page comments or having to manually enter in directives. ConfigUI is a plugin that quite simply adds a graphic user interface to the config file. It has been built for MT 3.2 and uses almost every new API available. It works by re-writing your config file so you need to make sure: • mt-config.cgi (or mt.cfg) is writeable by the web server • your check your settings before saving
Have a look at the screenshot to see what it looks like. It basically lists all non-critical directives (this means it doesn't list the CGIPath or Database...
