21. MT-Notifier Comment Integration

Don't Back Down, News, 7 KB, 198 words

Recently I have received a number of requests about where to place the checkbox to allow people to subscribe to comments. The use of this checkbox is fairly straightforward if you are using an upgraded blog, which has a detailed form for comments. With the introduction of MovableType 3, however, these fields are included only in the MTCommentFields tag, and produced dynamically. While they can be edited, it's not a simple task. Also, more than a few people have asked about maintaining the state of the comment checkbox when previewing the comment.

Because these two tasks are fairly closely related, I will work on them at the same time. I have created a new Dropcash campaign, titled,...

22. HTTP Header Registries

Six Apart ProNet Weblog, News, 13 KB, 88 words

This one's a bit technical, but if you make a client application that works with web services over HTTP, it could be indispensable: Mark Nottingham's work on an HTTP Header Registrie. An extensive list of HTTP headers are defined and documented, and it's hard to believe this is the first time they've all been listed in one place.

24. Everything TypeKey

Six Apart ProNet Weblog, News, 15 KB, 237 words

Andre Torrez, developer of the super cool service DropCash, has launched Everything TypeKey. It's a new wiki that lists all of the sample code, classes, scripts, tutorials, and applications that have been developed around our TypeKey authentication service.

There's some invaluable resources on the list, including Tim Appnel's TinyOrwell system, which lets you run your own local authentication, as well as TypeKey client sample code in PHP, Perl, and ASP.Net.

We've been very excited to see all the creative ways TypeKey has been used since its launch, and Everything TypeKey should be a good resource to make it easier to build on the platform in the future. If you've got something cool,...

Workflow, a new plugin for Movable Type 3.1x, has just been released by David Raynes. While we don't usually feature new plugins as part of our news about the Movable Type platform, we thought it was worth pointing out because Workflow adds a powerful new area of functionality, and also marks a milestone for the growth of our plugin community.

First, the features: Workflow lets you limit control of publshing rights to certain authors in your Movable Type installation, allowing other people on the system to act as editors and review entries before they're published. Administrators can control who has rights to any of these levels of permissions. Plus, authors can transfer...

29. CustomFields 1.0

Movalog, Tutorials, 28 KB, 638 words

At long last I'm proud to release CustomFields 1.0. I had previously mentioned this plugin and had created a DropCash campaign for it. The campaign surprised me as it reached its target much quicker than I had estimated. A massive thank you to all those that donated towards the campaign and also to all of those that donated subsequently. I was especially happy as 20% of the proceedings was donated to help the Hurricane Katrina victims. Read the announcement to find out more about CustomFields, otherwise go grab your copy!

30. Typelists for MT

Movalog, Tutorials, 30 KB, 990 words

A while ago, I had posted about creating a Typelists plugin for MT that would model Typelists in Typepad, I later found out that Tim Appnel was already developing a similar sort of plugin. I had emailed him that day to know where he stood in the scheme of things and got a reply back a few days ago. I've reproduced his reply here with his permission !

I am developing a "TypeLists for MT" app. I got all of the base objects working and tested. I'm also most of the way through the application. What's left is the interface (HTML), testing the application, creating various other lists and documentation. Oh... and a better name. I can't say exactly when I will finish since I have a number of...

MT-Blacklist v2.03-beta

As part of the ongoing efforts against comment spam, Jay Allen has released Blacklist v2.03-beta. This release is designed to take advantage of the improvements in Movable Type 3.14, and the combination of the two is an excellent way to manage comment spam while not imposing too much of a burden on your web server.

If you're using an older version of MT-Blacklist, it's strongly recommended that you update to this new version. And just to review, MT-Blacklist, despite the name, MT-Blacklist offers a wide variety of techniques to manage or moderate comments or block spam, in addition to its namesake Blacklisting feature.
