41. Movable Type on GoDaddy

Don't Back Down, Tutorials, 8 KB, 386 words

Today I was working with someone and having a bear of a time getting their 3.17 install working on their GoDaddy hosting account. It turns out that the way the script name was accessed had changed - and since GoDaddy runs under sbox, it was returning sbox as the name when it redirected you back to the page! So with a few small edits to App.pm, I got around this issue and made things work.

I'm still having problems with getting dynamic publishing to work on GoDaddy, but at least we're making progress. If you are installing Movable Type on your GoDaddy host, and running into problems, take a look at our Movable Type Consulting Services to see how we can help.

Update: I think I have...

42. php includes in dynamic archive templates

geekmum {movable cafe}, Tutorials, 17 KB, 315 words

I was having a heck of a time calling includes into dynamic archive pages (php files, no extensions). The syntax I used in my Main Index template was NOT working in my dynamic archives. What I found out was that I was using a php shortcut syntax which is not enabled on all servers (and perhaps in my case not in all cases? not sure about that yet - I'll look into an .htaccess solution although I have no reason to believe there is one - just a gut instinct to try)

These worked in the main index, but not in archives:

<? include "http://domain.com/tagline/rotator.php"; ?>

or

<? include "tagline/rotator.php"; ?>

This syntax works in both index AND archives:

<?php include...

46. Movable Type 3.12 is released

Six Apart ProNet Weblog, News, 13 KB, 100 words

A small update to Movable Type today: version 3.12 is out. Faster rebuilds, automatic generation of .htaccess files for dynamic pages, better support for running under mod_perl or on old versions of perl, and a few other little tweaks and fixes make for a useful new version. It's a free update for all licensed users, and should be fairly straightforward to upload on top of your current Movable Type installation.

49. Getting a Little Tougher on Comment and Trackback Spam

Eat Drink Sleep MT, News, 17 KB, 363 words

Over the past month or two, comment and Trackback spam has become a bigger issue for everybody. Six Apart even released the Guide to Comment Spam to help Movable Type users combat the problem.

danandsherree.com hasn't been left out of the spam attacks. Today alone, MT-Blacklist has denied over 200 spams! A number of those, unfortunately, have gotten through - and not just today. For the past two weeks this site has gotten hammered daily. I'm getting tired of clicking "De-Spam" buttons.

So I added several Blacklist strings that have really helped. Strings like "poker," "porn," and "xxx," to name just a few. (Many of...

50. FeedBurner plugin 0.8

David Raynes, Plugins, 9 KB, 175 words

While it is not yet 100% feature complete, I wanted to get a version of it out there once I got most of the basic functionality working well enough.

Hop on over to the FeedBurner plugin page, download it, unpack it into the main MT directory, and you are ready to go. You can use this plugin to create a feed and to view the stats for that feed (including individual entries if you have a PRO account) in the MT interface.

The two main parts that are not yet finished are the feed redirection (i.e. writing an .htaccess file to send requests for your feed to the FeedBurner feed instead) and support for the SmartCast service.

Please, let me know if there are any problems or...

Movable Type 3.11 Released: Bugs fixed

We've just released Movable Type 3.11, an update to version 3.1 which corrects some problems that were preventing many users from upgrading their installations.

If you downloaded the general release of Movable Type 3.1 and had trouble using it straight off the bat, this update is for you. Some other bugs were corrected as well; here's a complete list of changes from version 3.1: • Corrected some problems with upgrades: from 3.0x to 3.1x with Berkeley DB, or from 2.6x to 3.0 with any database system. • Updates to templates were not reflected on dynamic pages after saving an entry; that's now fixed. • In some older versions of Perl, a syntax error blocked any use of the...

53. Mobile Phone

Murky, Tutorials, 22 KB, 239 words

When I got my new phone last year, one of the first things I did was ask 'how does my page look?' Perhaps unsurprisingly for those who know about this sort of thing, it did not 'look' like anything as it didn't even load.

I did a little research today, and following a google search I found nicely toasted. Some editing yielded a movable type template for this site. The output file is here, but will only be readable on a mobile device (or firefox, with a wml plugin).

I have been trying to get a redirect for wml browsers to automatically go to this page, but I haven't been able to make it work without changing the url for THIS page. I didn't want to do it with...

Although the campaign hasn't been completed, I was excited about this release due to its featureset and didn't want to busy myself with its release during the peak of my exams.

So here it is, Download MT-Protect_1.0.zip and follow the installation instructions . If you are upgrading from the beta, you will need to run the upgrade script that will create a new table.

This new release includes several new features: •

Typekey groups, this is where you create groups of Typekey users from example Friends etc. To assist you in creation of these groups, a new list_commenters.tmpl has been included in the distribution so you can select Typekey commenters to add to a new group. •

59. MT 3.1 Screenshots

Movalog, News, 30 KB, 997 words

Movable Type 3.1 is the feature upgrade that everyone was looking for in 3.0D. There are three main new features, dynamic templating, post scheduling and subcategories. Lets take a tour around these new features. These are some screenshots from the first beta, so the final product may not be exactly the same.

Dynamic Templating

The first thing you notice is when you go to the manage templates page. A new build options section has been created and gives you the following three options: • Build All Templates Statically • Build Only Archive Templates Dynamically • Set Each Template's Build Options Separately

The options do what they say, if you chose the last option then a check box...

3.2 (2005.08.25)

Major Features

• New dead-simple AJAX-powered installation/upgrade process (see screencast demo) which replaces mt-load.cgi and all mt-upgrade* scripts. Also eliminated the upgrade distribution since only the config file would be different. • Combined mt.cfg and mt-db-pass.cgi into mt-config.cgi. Shipping as mt-config.cgi-original so as to prevent overwriting when upgrading. • Introduced the new System Overview section which allows administrators to configure and manage aspects of the system across all weblogs • Introduced a plugin-based feedback rating framework which scores comments and TrackBacks upon submission on a scale from -10 (least desirable) to 10 (most desirable)...
