Setting Comment Policy

You want to set commenting policy for your weblog.

Solution

Use the controls under the Feedback tab of the weblog's Settings screen.

Discussion

When Movable Type Version 3.0 was released, its most significant enhancements came in the area of comment and TrackBack management and moderation, providing publishers numerous means of controlling the community elements of MT-powered sites.

While the Comments and Commenters Listing screens provide the ability to manually tend to comments in a more efficient manner than previous versions, MT also added...

Banning A Commenter

Problems

You want to ban a commenter from commenting on a weblog.

Solution

Use the Ban Commenter action on the Comments Listing screen.

Discussion

Occasionally a commenter will abuse a weblog's comments, leaving you no alternative but to ban them from further commenting. In order to identify and ban a commenter from the system, you must be using authentication (i.e., TypeKey).

There are a number of ways in which a commenter can be banned. The most straightforward is to click the Commenters Toolbar button, find the commenter you wish to ban, check the box...

Creating an Alternate Archive Template

Problem

You want to create a secondary archive template for use in your weblog.

Solution

Create a new Archive Template and map it to an archive type from the Publishing Settings tab.

Discussion

Movable Type allows you to assign multiple templates to an archive type. This allows you to output archived content with different layouts or formats if necessary. For instance, you may want to generate a syndication feed for each category in your weblog.

Begin by creating a new Archive Template. MT uses very descriptive functional names.

To create the archive...

29. Customize display of this screen

Six Apart User Manual, Manuals, 22 KB, 498 words

Customize display of this screen

Movable Type allows you to customize the entry editing screen to fit with your usage of the system. This customization is done on a per-author, per-weblog basis. In other words, as an author, you can have different screen layouts for each weblog that you post to; and when you customize the screens, your preferences will not trample over those of any of the other authors in the system.

The system lets you choose between two predefined layouts (Basic and Advanced), or allows you to create a custom layout, where you choose the fields you would like...

Marking a Commenter as Trusted

Problem

You have some commenters that always make relevant contributions, so you don't want to bother moderating them.

Solution

Designate the commenters as "trusted."

Discussion

In the course of allowing comments on your weblog, some users will emerge as trusted commenters -- those who become known to you and make appropriate and relevant contributions to the conversation. Perhaps they are friends, colleagues, or even other authors from your weblog. Or maybe they are like-minded people with similar interests and insightful views.

0.08 (2001.10.03)

• Added mininav to left side of all system pages (once you have selected a blog to edit, that is). Items in nav are dependent upon permissions, of course. (Josh Buchanan) • Added activity log; currently it records logins, logouts, unsuccessful authentications/password recoveries, etc. because that seems most useful from a system maintenance perspective. • Added ability to rebuild just a single set of pages from a particular archive type, eg. all Weekly archives. Also, split up ``Rebuild all files'' so that it rebuilds in steps: Individual...

2.0b2 (2002.02.20)

• Sort categories and authors in power-edit screen. • Changed input box styles back to 20px so that they are not too small in Windows. • Added caching of templates when rebuilding archives; this means that for each archive type, each archive template need only be loaded once. Hopefully this will improve performance. • Fixed bug where Convert Line Breaks setting was not applied to preview page. • Shortened manual split page names so that they don't get truncated. • Export now exports in ascending chronological order....
