  • Reduce the number of websites.
  • Add more keywords.
  • Use quotes for building terms from keywords. For example, the phrase banner image searches for all articles containing both words. However, "banner image" searches for the exact two-word phrase.

Update and More Screens

We have to admit that we fell a bit behind with the development of the system. We actually forced ourselves to take a week off in order to deal with the events of the eleventh. While we did come to the conclusion that most things -- including a weblogging content management system -- are a bit trivial, we realized that we needed to go back to the metaphorical mines in order to regain some sort of normalcy in our daily routine.

Movable Type 3.01D bug fix release

We've just released Movable Type 3.01D. You can download the new version by logging into your Movable Type Account and using the "download" link for the appropriate license. If you're upgrading from 3.0D, there's no need to run any upgrade script for this release: just upload the files to your server and you should be ready to go!

This release fixes a number of bugs that were present in 3.0D. The lot of it boils down to this: • Comment preview is no longer dropped (see below for instructions) • Default templates now have valid HTML in a few places where they didn't before. • Lots of bugs fixed with export...

123. Converting MT 2.x styles to MT 3

Movalog, Tutorials, 27 KB, 672 words

Learning Movable Type has a tutorial on how to apply MT 3 styles to a 2.x blog but what about the other way around ?

I scanned two similar stylesheets to see what changed, basically the only thing you need to change is the definitions names mostly, the actually style definitions can stay the same. I am assuming you are using the default MT 3 templates Here is what has changed with the CSS from MT 2.x to MT 3 styles - it may not be perfect but it'll be darn close. I have listed the MT 2.x definitions and then the MT 3 definition it needs to be changed to: • .description becomes #banner h2 • #content and .blogbody becomes .content • #links becomes #right • .title becomes .content h3 • .date becomes...

1.2 (2001.11.04)

• Fixed bug when system's crypt implementation uses MD5 passwords (MT was not picking up the proper salt). (Monica Reyes) • Added form-validity checking to mt-comments.cgi for checking email address and URL. (Aaron Straup Cope) • Set $CGI::POST_MAX to 1MB, which means that uploads must be 1MB or less, to prevent denial of service attacks. (Aaron Straup Cope) • Added mt-export.cgi, which will export all of your MT entries into a format that can be suitably re-imported through the import mechanism. It is also useful for keeping backups...

Testing Begins & More Info about 3.0

We're taking our first steps towards the release of Movable Type 3.0. The pre-beta version has just finished its initial two rounds of alpha testing and we're now opening the testing to a larger audience (we've picked 300 random addresses from those who applied and will be adding more as time progresses).

The testing that we're conducting will not only help ensure a stable final release but will also give us an opportunity to receive feedback on feature implementation from both users and developers.

Starting today, we'll be giving all of our users much more information on what to expect in Movable Type 3.0....

127. Typelists for MT

Movalog, Tutorials, 30 KB, 990 words

A while ago, I had posted about creating a Typelists plugin for MT that would model Typelists in Typepad, I later found out that Tim Appnel was already developing a similar sort of plugin. I had emailed him that day to know where he stood in the scheme of things and got a reply back a few days ago. I've reproduced his reply here with his permission !

I am developing a "TypeLists for MT" app. I got all of the base objects working and tested. I'm also most of the way through the application. What's left is the interface (HTML), testing the application, creating various other lists and documentation. Oh... and a better name. I can't say exactly when I will finish since I have a number of...

A List Apart, Tutorials, 25 KB, 3281 words

What are web documents made of, anyway? Sugar, spice, and everything nice?

In fact, they're nothing more than Source. For all of the inspiration, thought, and sweat that might go into a page, it is merely a mess of characters that happens to contain a lot of brackets.

After five and a half years of actively building pages, it's occurring to me that a lot of developers haven't figured this out.

What I see is not what they get.

Is this the anguished moaning of an old fart? It certainly is.

As with the plaintive cries uttered by all old farts, this one also contains a nugget of wisdom: while at first you may succeed by the power vested in your tools, you...

129. Comments Archives

Six Apart User Manual, Manuals, 67 KB, 5029 words

Weblogs are not just a one-way medium for publishing. With the use of a singular, often conversational voice, enhanced by the loosely coupled nature of the Internet and lightweight syndication formats, weblogs are akin to conversations, regardless of the size and makeup of the audience. "A" writes about something on their mind -- an experience, the news, or a project's status. "B" reads it and expresses their take. "C" finds both posts interesting and notes something A and B has not mentioned and so on.

Not everyone has a weblog (sadly) and not everyone wants to make a post to their weblog for everything...

130. Templates and Layout Archives

Six Apart User Manual, Manuals, 70 KB, 5607 words

One of Movable Type's most powerful traits is its flexibility to adapt to practically any weblog design or use you can imagine. For the average user, most of this flexibility comes from Movable Type's template engine.

The template engine is crucial to automating the process of publishing and is what makes a publishing system go. When a rebuild is performed, templates are merged with content to create a page that visitors can view in their browsers.

These templates are what control the design and layout of your site and what keeps that design separate from the content. Templates describe where you want...

133. MT-Textile

Brad Choate, Plugins, 380 KB, 17642 words

Textile is a ‘Humane Web Text Generator,' created by Dean Allen of Textism. After seeing Textile in action, I decided that I must create a Movable Type plugin that does the same thing.

I came to that decision before Movable Type 2.6 and the custom text filter thing were announced. In fact, seeing Textile spurred me to write to Ben about a way for MT users to have more text formatting choices and the option to select them on a per-entry basis. To my delight, he replied that "it's already in the works."

So here we are a couple of months later. MT 2.6 is in beta (and very near to release)...
