If the result list is too large, please consider these hints
- Reduce the number of websites.
- Add more keywords.
- Use quotes for building terms from keywords. For example, the phrase banner image searches for all articles containing both words. However, "banner image" searches for the exact two-word phrase.

Six Apart ProNet Weblog, News, 14 KB, 218 words

Though it's not a new idea to ProNet members, one of great recurring ideas about how to use TypePad and, especially, Movable Type is as a general website platform. Fred Wilson does a great job of explaining the benefits, and one of the issues that was brought up in Fred's comments is requests for how-tos and documentation of such deployments.
We're always looking to improve our documentation, and if you're considering writing up how you've done a Movable Type deployment, let us know and we'll be glad to link to and promote your article or publish it as a Professional Network article.
To get started, there's a few essays on the topic that have become common references, including Matt...

Choosing the Right Weblog Platform
Problem
You are trying to determine whether Movable Type or TypePad is right for you.
Solution
Decide what is most important to you: simplicity or control.
Discussion
TypePad is a complement to Movable Type, not a replacement. The two tools share a common core designed to address the needs of users with different requirements and capabilities. So, the question that will often be asked is, which is right the tool to use, Movable Type or TypePad? The answer comes down to simplicity vs. control. TypePad's centralized design and focus on...

Byrne Reese is our product manager for TypePad, but he's also a true geek whom you might know from his work on such fan-favorite Perl modules as SOAP::Lite.
Byrne's just released two new Movable Type plugins, QuickLink and his updated version of BookQueueToo, so it seemed like a good chance to interview him about Six Apart, his code, and blogging in general.
Let's start with some background: What were you doing before joining Six Apart? How did you start being a geek?
I think my friends will tell you I have always been a geek. But I would say that my true hacker like geek-dom began when I took an interest with a close friend of mine in computer programming. Inspired by our...

Learning Movable Type, Tutorials, 19 KB, 1010 words

Before you install Movable Type there are three fundamental questions you need to ask yourself, 1) should you really be using Movable Type as your blogging software?, 2) do you have everything you need to use Movable Type? and 3) should you do the install yourself or should you pay someone else to do it?
1. Should you really be using Movable Type?
As weblogs gain more public visiblity, more and more people are setting up their own blogs. Many turn to Movable Type as it is one of the more established and powerful tools available. Movable Type however requires much more technical expertise than hosted blog services such as Typepad and Blogger. The first requirement is that you know...

A List Apart, Tutorials, 23 KB, 3150 words

The development community, the independent content community, and especially webloggers, are familiar with Six Apart's Movable Type, a robust and popular publishing tool designed to faciliate the creation of blogs. Lately the community has been buzzing about a soon-to-be-released Six Apart product intended to deliver the power of personal publishing to an even wider, non-expert user base.
What has not been told until now is that TypePad has been designed to generate standards-compliant sites, and that the application itself is built with web standards. A List Apart's publisher and creative director Jeffrey Zeldman caught up with Six Apart's Anil Dash to find out more....

Six Apart Mena's Corner, News, 61 KB, 1853 words

So yeah, we know that there's been an elephant in the room, sorry it took two days to announce that yes indeed, Six Apart did acquire LiveJournal. It has been hard not to react to all the questions and comments but we needed to finish all the legal documents and close the deal officially before we could say anything.
Finally I can spend some time talking about why we did this deal, what it means for LiveJournal users, what it means for Movable Type and TypePad users and for Six Apart and Danga. I hope that I can even dispel some crazy rumors.
As my posts tend to be pretty verbose, I'll first link to a FAQ that should answer a lot of questions that people may have. Once you've read...

As you've probably seen, either through rumors in the blogosphere, in the FAQ linked on our company homepage, or in Mena's account on Mena's Corner, we (Six Apart) have acquired LiveJournal. A lot of the details are covered in those links, but there's some information that might be of specific interest to the Professional Network community:
(Re-)Introducing LiveJournal
Most of you are probably familiar with LiveJournal, but it might be worth reviewing what it is and how it works for those of you who haven't had a chance to take a look. As you might know, LiveJournal is a hosted journal service that's similar to TypePad in some ways. However, LiveJournal is strongly focused on community,...

A specialized version of MTEntries that is aware of subcategories.
Attributes: • category - The value of this attribute is a category label. This will include any entries to that category and any of its subcategories.
Since it is possible for two categories to have the same label, you can specify one particular category by including its ancestors, separated by slashes. For instance if you have a category "Flies" and within it a subcategory labeled "Fruit", you can ask for that category with category="Flies/Fruit". This would distinguish it from a category labeled "Fruit" within another called "Food...

Atom is a standardized format for describing weblog content. With a standard format, you can exchange weblog content not only between web services but between command line tools--that's the idea behind some Java programs called "atomflow." To the same end as the atomflow project, I'm delighted to present a Perl module for creating command line Atom tools. I'm using it to post Flickr photos to a TypePad sidebar, but I'm sure you'll have many more ideas for it.
XML::Atom::Filter
The Atom format is being designed as a lingua franca of weblog content. Recognizing that a standard format makes meaningful integration between software programs easier, Diego Doval, Matt Webb, and Ben Hammersley invented...
